Sarah Patterson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Kansas State University. In 2000, she started her career at The Dow Chemical Company as a run-plant engineer for production technologies spanning epoxy resins, synthetic glycerine, butylene oxide, softwater and allyl chloride during which time, she received her certification as a Greenbelt Project Leader. In 2006, Sarah transitioned to the Polyethylene Pipe Technical Service and Development Group (TS&D). As a TS&D Research Scientist, her responsibilities included developing technical accounts/new business developments (NBD) for non-pressure to pressure pipe and non-pressure applications from extrusion profile, blown and cast extrusion and coex structures. She was also responsible for defining research and development programs for NBD comprising materials such as HDPE, LLDPE, engineered materials and additives. Publications include 3 patent applications as a co-inventor, with 1 granted to date.
In 2013, Sarah became the Technical Director and Chairman of the Hydrostatic Stress Board (HSB) of the Plastics Pipe Institute (PPI), a major trade association representing all segments of the plastics piping industry. In these roles, she works towards standards development across ASTM, ISO, ASME, CSA, AWWA and ASABE for thermoplastic pressure pipe. She also has responsibility for the PPI HSB Listing Program for pressure pipe comprising HDPE, MDPE, PVC, CPVC, composites, PEX, ingredients, PVDF
and PA.
